Soap2day – On November 22, 2024, the second "Gladiator" movie will come out. The sequel to the award-winning drama movie will start filming this year. Paul Mescal, who is 26, will play the lead role.
Details about the movie are still being kept secret, but Paul will play Lucius, who is the son of Connie Nielsen's character Lucilla and the nephew of Joaquin Phoenix's character Commodus from the first movie.
Russell Crowe said that he won't be back as Maximus in the new movie and that it won't be a "direct sequel." The main character in the historical drama movie was played by a 58-year-old actor, who said, "We've talked about it and all that stuff over dinner. So I have a good idea of how he's going to shape the story."
"But, if you remember, there was a young boy who wanted to beat the Gladiator, which led to the "My name is" speech. So, that little boy grew up and is now the Emperor. At that point, I don't know what else happens, so that's the idea. It's not a remake, then. And it's not a direct sequel. It's not like the day after or something that happened 30 years later."
The script is being written by David Scarpa, and Ridley, along with Michael Pruss of Scott Free and Doug Wick and Lucy Fisher of Red Wagon Entertainment, will be in charge of making the movie.
A source had previously told the Bizarre column of The Sun newspaper, "This has been coming together since 2018, and for a long time, it seemed like it might never happen. But all of a sudden, at the end of last year, the production team got a new script that seemed to give them new energy."
"After a few months, everything was up and running, and now it's going very well. They should start shooting by May, so there's a good chance that the movie will be done sometime in 2024. In either case, this would be a huge draw at the movie theaters. It was a huge hit and one of the best action movies of its time. Ridley has been asked about a sequel for years, so it's clear that there's a huge demand for it."
